Call to Action on Standards in Denmark
Digitary's Commercial Director Jonathan Dempsey presented at EUNIS (European Universities Information Systems Association - www.eunis.org) in Århus in Denmark in June in the role of supporting standards development. Digitary is one of three companies coordinating the Rome Student Systems and Standards Group (RS3G), which to date consists of student system implementers and domain experts from 13 countries and aims to collaborate for the development and promotion of standards for data, processes and policies in the area of student mobility and employability.
The group held its first workshop in Rome in November 2007 and followed this quickly by a second workshop held by Digitary and kindly hosted by Dublin Institute of Technology in April. The group aims to bring the needs of institutions and other stakeholder to the fore in highlighting what standards work is needed most urgently and group participants offer a ready route for implementation of the resulting standards.
In his paper, Jonathan described the work of the group, progress to date and a vision for the future where value from investment in systems is increased by significant interoperability benefits. On behalf of the group, he prompted others to get involved.
