Rome Student Systems and Standards Group Gathers Pace
The Rome Student Systems and Standards Group [RS3G] is a group of like minded student systems implementers and stakeholders who aim to promote and work on the creation of standards for student and graduate mobility and to act as a means of early implementation of standards that are developed.
The group which is coordinated by Digitary, Italian company Kion and German company Unisolution, was initiated in Rome in November 2007 and held its second workshop, which was hosted by Digitary, in Dublin in April 2008.
Participation to date has been from 15 countries including valuable contributions from colleagues from the Postsecondary Education Standards Council in the United States.
Even broader participation is expected at the next workshop that will take place in Stuttgart on 10 and 11 December, with countries and key stakeholders being represented for the first time.
An acceleration in the progress being made is anticipated and the agenda for the workshop will include updates on several significant projects:
- Metadata for Learning Opportunities (in the area of course catalogue)
- European Learner Mobility (Europass and Diploma Supplement)
- EuroAFI (a European project proposal for infrastructure for secure higher education data exchange)
- Higher Education Achievement Record incorporating the Diploma Supplement (UK Achievement Information Working Group / Centre for Education Technology Interoperability Standards)
Working meetings will aim to progress the development of a common vocabulary and of standards for both the European Diploma Supplement and European Learner Mobility.
The group is gaining international attention because of the involvement of both standards stakeholders and implementers and will, for instance, play a major role at next year's European Association for International Education in Madrid.
